Tony Karon is the editorial manager of AJ+, the social-media video arm of the Al Jazeera Media Network. He was previously the VP for digital news at Al Jazeera America, and before that spent 15 years at TIME magazine, where he was a senior editor and wrote extensively on international conflicts. He has written for the New York Times, the Guardian, Project Syndicate, the LA Times, Vox, Quartz, Haaretz, the National, and other publications, and also spent a year at the Institute for New Economic Thinking. He's an adjunct professor in the Graduate Program in International Affairs at the New School in New York, teaching courses on topics that include the news media in the shaping of U.S. foreign policy and the politics (and geopolitics) of global soccer. Born and raised in South Africa, he was active in the anti-apartheid movement before moving to the U.S. in 1993. He lives in Brooklyn, NY.
