I blew the whistle on my government after 9/11 but fear it did not matter
Thomas Drake is a former senior executive at the National Security Agency where he blew the whistle on massive multi-billion dollar fraud, waste and abuse, the widespread violations of the rights of citizens and the Constitution through secret mass surveillance programs after 9/11, as well as critical 9/11 intelligence failures and the subsequent post 9/11 coverup.
He was a material witness in multiple government investigations including Congress and the DoD. He also went to the US press in early 2006 with unclassified information disclosed in the public interest. After a multi-year, multi-million dollar national security leak investigation involving upwards of 5 full-time prosecutors and 25 full-time FBI agents, and as retaliation and reprisal, the Obama Administration indicted Drake in 2010 in a signature criminal case as the first whistleblower since Daniel Ellsberg for violating the draconian Espionage Act, turning him into an Enemy of the State.
He is the only targeted person of interest to date investigated, indicted, convicted and sentenced with regard to the US domestic mass surveillance regime approved at the highest levels of the government (up to and including President Bush) that was ‘protected’ as an extreme national security state secret. Drake faced 35 years in prison, for keeping faith and allegiance to his oath to support and defend the US Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic and the inalienable rights and freedoms of people.
He is now dedicated to the defense of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
