Richard Hanania

Richard Hanania is a research fellow at the Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies at Columbia University. His research interests include nuclear weapons policy, the early Cold War, the use of machine learning in automated text analysis to understand history, and how special interests and political psychology influence American foreign policy. Dr. Hanania’s work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals including International Studies Quarterly and the Journal of Conflict Resolution, in addition to the popular press in The Atlantic, The Diplomat, The National Interest, The Wall Street Journal, War on the Rocks, and The Washington Post. His forthcoming book is Rational Individuals, Irrational States: Public Choice Theory and the Illusion of Grand Strategy.
